The mission of the Cherokee Native Art and Plant Society is Supporting and Promoting Cherokee Elders, Traditions, Artistic Expressions and Natural Environments. The Cherokee Native Art and Plant Society is under the full leadership of Cherokee Tribal Members and serves to provide traditional Cherokee indigenous knowledge systems through plants and art to Native people, Cherokees and the general public. We also showcase Cherokee National Treasures work throughout the year at several events, workshops, and continually at the Studio of Jane Osti at 17950 S. Muskogee Avenue in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
One of our organization's current focuses is upon intergenerational Mentoring in Cherokee cultural life-way's traditions and philosphies taught to us by our Elders. The Listening to Our Elders project, first conceived in the Greasy community, allows Cherokee National Treasure Elders to take the lead in projects that reach out to and interact with youth and adults. Its purpose is to perpetuate the Cherokee language, history, cutlutural practices and teachings passed from one generation to another with awareness that "teachers" can be of any age, including children and youth.
The Cherokee Native Art and Plant Society is expanding this innovative mentoring program into public school systems and working in cooperation with other community non-profit organizations who share a common vision toward preserving and perpetuating the wisdom of our Cherokee Elders.
